Location Scout Video: Castle Point Ruins
A video location scout visit to the ruins of a mansion in the mountains from a time gone by, complete with a history full of romance and intrigue!
Location Scout VR Panorama: Van Slyke Mansion Ruins, NJ
Another VR panorama test, this time using a Leica D-Lux 3 / normal lens. The tripod used was only semi-nodal, a normal lens was used and only one set of exposures was made so a fully immersive, 360 / 180 HDRi VR wasnt really in the cards. But we *do* have the lovely Mary brightening an otherwise arguably dreary environment! 🙂
Location Scout VR Panorama Created From Flip HD Video
VR panorama of Castle Point Ruins made from an image sequence from my Flip UltraHD. The tripod used was only semi-nodal and the Flip’s exposure isn’t really controllable so a fully immersive, 360 / 180 HDRi VR wasnt really in the cards. But I’m pretty happy starting out 🙂 …and shooting with a Flip LOL!

VAN SLYKE CASTLE and RAMAPO PARK – An Historical Sketch by J. H. Ward
The ruins of the house popularly known as the Van Slyke Castle stand majestically on the nose of a mountain 1,500 feet north off and 350 feet above Ramapo Lake in what is now Ramapo Mountain State Forest. The view from the grounds are magnificent. The house, the lake, and surrounding area also have interesting histories.
Van Slyke Castle – Lost in Jersey
Fast Facts: The Van Slyke family moved here around the 1920’s, but in the 1950’s there was a bitter divorce and the house was vacated. Vandals soon broke in and torched the mansion in 1959. The state purchased what is now the Ramapo Mountain forest from his estate in 1976.
